Do you remember that famous trial in which Oprah and Howard Lyman were sued by the cattlemen of Texas? In 1996, when Howard Lyman warned America on The Oprah Winfrey Show that Mad Cow Disease was coming to America, offended cattlemen sued him and Oprah both. Not only were Lyman and Oprah vindicated in court, but events have proved many of Lyman’s predictions absolutely right. Mad Cow Disease has come to America.
Howard F. Lyman is the Mad Cowboy. He is a 4th generation family farmer (and vegan) from Montana. After 20 years of operating a feed lot, he sold his ranch and started working for farmers in financial trouble. He was a lobbyist in Washington, and ran for Congress in 1982. He is the former Director of the “Beyond Beef Campaign” & the Humane Society of the US, “Eating With Conscience” Campaign; past President of both the International Vegetarian Union, and Earth Save International, and is currently President of Voice for a Viable Future.
The Mad Cowboy joined us to talk about why he’s “Mad” and why he’s vegan! “The fork is the most dangerous weapon of the homo sapien.” ~ The Mad Cowboy
Howard told us that he does not eat “anything that has a face, a liver, or a mother.” He discussed why this type of eating leads to happier and healthier humans, animals, and planet.

Musician, Maggie Malyn, joined us LIVE in the studio and we played some of her original music. Maggie is new to Austin, but will be posting her gigs at her website, as she schedules them. You can also purchase her EP and her single from iTunes at her website: MaggieMalyn.com and on her Facebook.
Laura Gelezunas joined us from Puerto Vallarta to talk with the Mad Cowboy AND she reported in to fill us in on some new laws regarding Americans banking in Mexico. Bottom line, if you’re going to retire to Vallarta OR spend your winters there, the laws keep changing about cashing American checks (such as Social Security checks) in Mexico. So, best advice is to research it, find out the Mexican counterpart to your American bank, and talk to your bank about what you need to do and what the fees are. In order to open a bank account in Mexico, a temporary residence card will make it easier. In addition, you will need a valid passport, a valid local (Mexican) address, and 1,000 pesos (about $75) to open the account.
