Missed the program? It was AWESOME and you can hear it all right here!
Music therapists, Tara Jenkins, and Cathy Befi, of North Austin Music Therapy , joined Dr. Mara in the studio to talk about their new book, “Music, Memory, and Meaning.” Meredith Hamons, also a co-author of the book was not able to make it for the interview, but she has been on the program before and we hope to have her back on!
This book is a guide in the use of music for caregivers to use, as music is extremely powerful in helping someone with dementia to engage in meaningful connecting and to bring about feelings of joy. Tara and Cathy explained how to use the book, as well as when to call in a music therapist and what they do that’s different. We also played three of the songs from the play list in the book and they discussed how each of these songs is used in a different way, therapeutically. For more information about North Austin Music Therapy and to inquire about services, check out their website, www.NorthAustinMusicTherapy.com. If you don’t live in Austin and would like to find a music therapist near you, check out www.MusicTherapy.org. And their book is available on Amazon. And check out their Facebook page!
And Dr. Mara discussed Finding Peace in the Midst of Chaos (especially during the holiday season!).
