Once again, we were joined by a “regular to the show,” long-time Boston Globe Economics and Finance reporter, former reporter for The Economist, AND current researcher for the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, Kimberly Blanton. Kim joined us for a discussion about Retirement, Finance, and why people are choosing to work longer.  To make the best decision about when the best time would be for you to retire, Kim made the following recommendations:

– If your employer is offering seminars about retirement and you are in your 50’s or 60’s, you might learn some important information if you attend.

– Call Social Security and find out how much you would be paid by SS at different ages:  62, 65, or 70.  For most people, by delaying tapping into SS until age 70, the amount paid could be 75% higher than at age 62.

–  Thinking about retirement?  Then it would be worth your while to seek some counseling from a Financial Advisor.  It might take a few sessions, but could pay off with making the most financially sound decision.  Ask the Financial Advisor for an analysis about what age retirement would be best for you, given all of your circumstances.

– Married women very often don’t think about having a retirement plan in place that will continue to pay should their husband die first.  This is very important to have!

Musicians, Kim and Reggie Harris combine a strong folk and gospel legacy with a solid background in classical, rock and pop music, with performances at venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Smithsonian Institute, Reunion Arena in Texas, and Psalm Festival in Graz, Austria, among many others. The many other musicians they have performed with include Pete Seeger, Tom Paxton, and Harry Belafonte.  Kim and Reggie joined us to talk about they’re musical history, what they’re doing these days, and we played some of their original music.  They are very busy these days, on the road performing all over the place.  You can see their calendar to find out when they’re performing near you, you can buy their CD’s and download some of their music, invite them to come perform at a venue near you, and watch a video of Kim and Reggie performing their tribute song to Pete Seeger, as well as well as other videos, by going to: www.KimAndReggie.com.  Their CD’s are also available on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby.
