We were joined by Jake Sloan, who spent most of his adult life working as a civil rights advocate and labor-management consultant.  Jake discussed his new book, Standing Tall:  Willie Long vs. U.S. Government at Mare Island Naval Shipyard. This book is about Jake’s experience as one of the “Original 21ers,” a group of young African- American workers who challenged the largest West Coast U.S. naval base to provide equal opportunities and wages… and they won, influencing the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Find out more about Jake’s book and purchase it HERE on Bookshop.org, Amazon.com, or ArcadiaPublishing.com.
