Long-time Boston Globe Economics and Finance reporter, former reporter for The Economist, AND current research writer for the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College, Kimberly Blanton joined us, once again from Boston. This time, Kim helped us to demystify Social Security and to plan to get the most from SS in our retirement. You can also get even more detailed advice by setting up an appointment with Social Security. Kim told us that the research has found that, holding off before claiming Social Security, can make a tremendous difference in that you will receive more money every month for the rest of your life (but you must claim by age 70, or you will start to lose money after that). To get an estimate in the differences between claiming at 62 vs. every age after that until 70, you can use this easy estimator on-line.
