Kerri Barber, Licensed Health Insurance Advisor, specializing in assisting small business owners, their employees, and their families in securing low-cost, comprehensive health coverage, spoke about the new health care law and the implications of the upcoming deadline for open enrollment (March 31, 2014). Kerri spoke about some of the myths that people believe about the law and she did her best to educate us about the truth. You can check the facts yourself by going to: www.FactCheck.org.
Kerri told us about a great free service that will do a GLOBAL price check of your medications to find the least expensive source for you!! Send Marty a list of your medications and he will do a price comparison for no charge! www.YouSaveOnMeds.com.
Checking out the small print of your insurance policy is important to find out what it really covers! The process of finding the right insurance coverage for your needs can be complicated and confusing. Licensed insurance agents can help you in the process. Kerri let us know that licensed agents are not allowed to charge you for their services, nor are they allowed to persuade you to choose a company that pays them a commission. You can find an agent licensed in your state by going to your state’s Department of Insurance website or by going to www.HealthCareSolutions.com. Or get some on-line help to find the right insurance plan for you by going to: www.ReformSimple.com.
You can contact Kerri with your questions or for a list of agents in your area, by calling her: 224-829-8991 or go to her website: www.KerriBarber.com.
Pastor Dave Koppel and Tino Hernandez joined us from Round Rock, Texas, to talk about the program they founded together, Water for Africa, a charity which brings LifeStraw personal water filters to purify water for those who do not have drinkable water on the Horn of Africa. Each LifeStraw is good for one year for one person and will provide at least 1,000 liters of water. They each cost as little as $10! Their goal is to raise $1 million to help the children in Africa. You can find out more about this charity so that you can be sure that the donated money actually goes toward providing these life-saving straws to those who need them in Africa…and you can donate, by going to: www.WaterForAfricaCentralTexas.org.

Laura Gelezunas reported in from the retirement paradise, Puerto Vallarta, to talk about health insurance for American retirees living full or part-time in Mexico. Some American health insurance plans will work in Mexico, but Medicare will not. So, you can actually purchase health insurance in Mexico to use in Mexico, either short-term or regular insurance, depending on whether you are there for a few months or year-round! You can find out more about what’s happening in Vallarta for retirees by going to: www.BanderasNews.com.
