Tonight, I was joined by Patricia Longoria of United Healthcare to talk about what you need to know if you decide to work past 65 and delay getting onto Medicare. It is a great option for some people and not so great for others. How do you know if it’s right for you? And, if it IS right, how do you avoid penalties? First, it’s important to speak to the Human Resources representative at your place of employment. Then, it’s important to read up about all of the options available to you or receive some guidance from an expert to navigate this muddy terrain. Here are some resources for further information: http://medicare.gov/ OR http://www.medicaremadeclear.com/ OR call: 1-800-MEDICARE. For guidance, you can call your local Area Agency on Aging. In Central Texas, call: 512-916-6065. In all other parts of Texas and the Nation, call: 1-888-622-9111.
Singer, songwriter, musician, and former Broadway actress, Curly Karen Schleifer joined us from NYC to talk about her life in music and what she is doing now. Curly Karen played one of the orphans in the original Broadway production of “Annie” for 2 years, starting in 1978. She later went on to perform as Annie in the play at Lincoln Center. Karen is now recording a CD to be released this summer and is performing with her band every Saturday, from 7 to 11pm, through the summer, at the Daddy O Hotel on Long Beach Island, NJ. Curly Karen also has a show tomorrow night (7/8), from 8 to 11pm, in NYC at Luca Bar on 119 St. Marks Place.
